| POSITION |
Renton Technical College is currently accepting applications for substitute
secretaries. Persons in this position will temporarily replace permanent employees who are absent, and will work on
call as needed. The work day is usually eight hours, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
|
| ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS |
- Receives and screens telephone and personal callers; makes referrals as appropriate;
answers substantive questions not requiring research or technical knowledge.
- Maintains supervisor's calendar and schedules appointments and conferences without
prior clearance; assures that supervisor is fully briefed on matters to be considered before scheduled
meetings.
- Composes and types routine correspondence and other documents and materials as required
and approved by supervisor.
- Organizes and types manuscripts and other documents and materials from rough draft,
copy or verbal instructions.
- Orders, receives, reads, and screens incoming correspondence and other material; drafts
replies to general inquiries not requiring technical knowledge of the program(s) in question.
- Maintains control records on incoming correspondence and action documents; reads outgoing
correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy, conformance with general policy, factual correctness
and adequacy of treatment; calls any deviations or inaccuracies to the attention of the writer.
- Sorts and files a variety of documents and material according to relatively complex
filing procedures; removes and logs materials and maintains appropriate status and file reports.
- Receives requests for statistical or informative material concerning supervisor's programs
which can be assembled from the record; advises when material can be furnished and prepares it personally or
follows up to see that such material is prepared by staff within the specified time.
- Orders, receives, and maintains inventory of office supplies; operates office equipment
incidental to duties.
- Assists in the administration of various departmental responsibilities as required
by the supervisor.
- Exercises independent judgment within specific guidelines and standards.
- Extracts and compiles statistical data from a variety of source documents.
- May verify totals on report forms, requisitions, or bills.
- May collect fees, maintain collection records, verify and balance receipts, and prepare
documents for bank deposit or transmittal to general office.
- Posts invoices, vouchers, and other accounting, fiscal, and cost data under explicit
instructions from the accounting office and supervisors.
- Makes all necessary arrangements for travel.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

| MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS |
- One year's experience in directly related educational responsibilities requiring
occupational level typing and word processing.
- Six months applicable college or business school training including on-the-job training
may be substituted for the required work experience.
- Ability to perform self directed job responsibilities and research; maintain a high
level of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated aptitude and competency for successful performance of the responsibilities
listed.
- Such alternatives and/or additional qualifications to the above as the college may find
appropriate and acceptable.

| COMPENSATION |
The hourly rate for this position is $12.50.
