POSITION

Full-time, probationary (tenure-track) positions are scheduled for six hours of student contact and two hours of professional activity per day, Monday through Friday. This position offers the opportunity to impact the preparation of practical nurses for today's health care delivery system, exercise leadership skills, and to employ professional knowledge, standards, and futuristic thinking to the ongoing growth and development of the program. The  instructor will teach portions of the curriculum to beginning and advanced students, perform clinical instructor duties in acute or long term care settings, participate in program curricula and activities with the Coordinator and the Dean in accordance with College policies. Other professional responsibilities include: maintaining office hours at times convenient to the students; serving as an ad hoc member of the program's advisory committee; serving on departmental and college committees; participating in professional improvement activities; and other related duties as may be assigned by the Dean. This position is scheduled to begin upon selection.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Effectively teach portions of the adopted curriculum for the licensed practical nurse program and nursing program, including but not limited to, basic nursing skills, theory related to growth and development throughout the life cycle, medical surgical nursing, psychology, and maternal and child nursing.
  2. Provide for the orderly conduct of program learning activities, individual student learning needs, and the appropriate evaluation of student progress towards attaining the learning objectives.
  3. Participate in faculty activities related to program development and updating of the curriculum.
  4. Participate in recruiting and job placement activities for students.
  5. Actively participate in, and develop and maintain effective working relationships with the program advisory committee.
  6. Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff.
  7. Effectively participate in staff and college committees and activities.
  8. Work effectively with students from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds.
  9. Support the college's mission by creating a learning environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking.
  10. Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
  11. Develop a professional improvement plan and participate in improvement activities.
  12. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  13. Serve as an effective member of the nursing instructional team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. A Bachelors of Science in nursing is required. Masters is preferred.
  2. Three years of current clinical experience in an acute care setting is required. Long term care experience is desirable.
  3. Two years experience in nursing education beyond the clinical experience is preferred.
  4. Have or acquire within 90 days of initial employment an industrial first aid certificate.
  5. Have taken, or after initial employment begin taking, vocational pre-service and in-service training courses.
  6. A current Washington State nursing license, or the ability to quickly obtain one, is required.
  7. Demonstrate interest and ability to work successfully with students who represent a broad range of ages, abilities, cultural and ethnical backgrounds, and education.
COMPENSATION

The academic year (184 days) salary for this position is from $46,391 - $55,657., depending upon experience, and excluding incentive programs and advanced degrees. Employer-paid benefits include medical and dental coverage, basic life insurance, long-term disability insurance as currently provided by the State of Washington; a retirement plan; and sick leave. Some benefits require that the employee pay a portion of the fees and charges.
